A small, active white heron, the Snowy Egret is found in small ponds as well as along the ocean shore. Its black legs and yellow feet quickly identify it.  The snowy is a patient hunter in the tide pools, standing very still until a potential mouthful swims into its target zone.  It then quickly thrusts its head forward and down to snatch up its prey.  Photos courtesy of Tom Haight and Ocean Images.
