Turbot

These small flatfish, 6 to 12 inches, belong to the group of bottom fish known as right-eyed flounders. They are generally found on a bottom consisting of sand or mud and a depth of over 20 feet. They are more round then their more celebrated cousin the halibut. Unlike the halibut they are not active predators and prefer to dine on worms and small crustaceans scared up from the bottom. There are several species in Southern California waters including the C-O Turbot or Sole, the Hornyhead, Spotted and Curlfin.
