"Many of Doheny's visitors -- campers,
beachgoers, bicyclists and picnickers -- hurry
past our modest creek (San Juan Creek) mouth,
apparently unaware of the treasures that lurk
at the edges of the tall grass. Maybe this
is because, at first glance, it appears that
the birds in the marsh are 'just a bunch of gulls'.
A closer look, combined with a little patience,
will often reward the observer with a vast
array of birds, a satisfying experience for both
young and old...The best time for birdwatching
at Doheny is in the winter when many bird
species migrate."
